Drass (Ladakh): The serene landscape of Kargil resonated with the echoes of valor as the two-day event to commemorate Vijay Diwas and honor the sacrifice of 559 brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil war began with great fervor on Tuesday.
At the Lamochen viewpoint, the cradle of memories for our war heroes, the families of the fallen soldiers and veterans gathered to pay homage to the gallant souls. Emotions ran high as the memories of those who fought fearlessly for the nation were lovingly remembered.
Gracing the event as the chief guest was Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, the esteemed Northern Army Commander. His presence added an aura of reverence to the occasion.
As the day progressed, the spirit of patriotism took center stage, as a cultural program unfolded with the honorable presence of none other than the Army Chief himself, General Manoj Pande. The cultural extravaganza paid tribute to the indomitable spirit of our soldiers, whose courage still shines as a beacon of hope for the nation.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the atmosphere turned somber, and the nation collectively paid homage at the hallowed grounds of the Kargil War Memorial. With heavy hearts, the attendees remembered the heroes who etched their names in the annals of history with their supreme sacrifice during ‘Operation Vijay.’
The significance of each braveheart’s sacrifice was honored as 559 lamps were solemnly lit at the Veer Bhoomi, illuminating the darkness with the undying spirit of our martyrs.
General Manoj Pande took a step further in expressing the nation’s gratitude by felicitating the families of the fallen soldiers. Their faces adorned with both pride and sorrow were a poignant reminder of the sacrifices that continue to echo through generations.
The event, rightfully known as Shaurya Sandhya, witnessed an emotional rendition of patriotic songs by the Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre Fusion Band. Their soul-stirring melodies stirred deep emotions and further strengthened the resolve to protect our nation’s honor at any cost.
The ceremony was graced by several esteemed dignitaries, including General Naravane and numerous military veterans, who stood united to remember the valorous heroes of Kargil. Veer Naris, Veer Matas, and the War Heroes of Kargil also graced the occasion, adding to the profound significance of the day.
The Shaurya Sandhya became a heartwarming tribute to the brave souls who selflessly served our nation. Their unwavering commitment and unyielding courage continue to inspire the nation and remind us that freedom indeed comes at a great cost.
Tomorrow, as the nation commemorates the 22nd anniversary of Vijay Diwas, we await the presence of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, who will pay his heartfelt homage to the warriors who secured our borders and ensured our safety.
As the celebrations continue, let us bow our heads in reverence, cherishing the memory of these fallen heroes who are forever etched in the heart of our nation. For it is their sacrifice that has preserved the honor and dignity of our beloved India.
