Summer tips – Stay Cool to Prevent Heat Exhaustion and Sunstroke

With the arrival of summer , temperatures are soaring, and people are at risk of heat exhaustion and sunstroke. To stay safe, it’s essential to take precautions, including adjusting your diet. Luckily, certain foods and drinks can help prevent these heat-related illnesses. Include these five items in your summer diet:

Cucumber: With 96% water content, cucumbers are perfect for keeping you naturally hydrated and preventing dehydration-related heat exhaustion. They can also help detoxify your body and provide a natural energy boost.

Watermelon: Another high-water-content option, watermelon is packed with electrolytes and antioxidants that can help prevent sunstroke. Its potassium and amino acids also benefit your muscles, preventing cramps.

Buttermilk (Chaas): A popular Indian summer drink, buttermilk has hydrating and immunity-boosting properties. It also contains salt, which can address salt depletion caused by heat exhaustion.

Fennel seeds (Saunf): Fennel water is a great way to stay hydrated while combating nausea and detoxifying your body. It’s light on your system and can even help reduce body temperature when combined with soaked methi seeds.

Apple Cider Vinegar: Apple cider vinegar can help regulate sodium and potassium levels depleted by heat exhaustion. Mix it with water and honey for a drink that provides much-needed electrolytes. Other suitable choices for preventing sunstroke include coconut water and raw mango (kairi) aam panna. However, it’s crucial to avoid dehydrating drinks like tea, coffee, alcohol, and carbonated beverages. Additionally, wearing light, breathable fabrics and avoiding direct sun exposure is crucial for staying safe this summer.
