The BJP claimed on Wednesday that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had lavishly renovated his home, accusing him of hypocrisy. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is in power, responded with vehement denials and films showing collapsing ceilings.
Sambit Patra, a spokesman for the BJP, claimed that AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal had broken his campaign pledge to uphold truthfulness and simplicity. He described him as a “Maharaja,” or king, and claimed that he possessed a “lust for luxury and comfort.”
Without providing any proof, Mr. Patra further claimed that Mr. Kejriwal had promised media outlets between 20 and 50 crore to hide the story, but they had turned down his offer.
He emphasised records that showed how Mr.’s home had been outfitted with pricey Vietnamese marble, pre-built timber walls, and draperies costing millions of rupees. Mr. Kejriwal’s home.He claimed that a single curtain cost more than 7.94 lakh. This is the story of a ruthless king, Mr. Patra said during a press conference.
Earlier remarks in which he had lambasted politicians for residing in flashy homes and taking advantage of other amenities at taxpayer expense were compared with Mr. Kejriwal’s extravagant expenditures.Additionally, he had stated that he was happy with a four- or five-room home and did not require a larger one.
The AAP leader has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to answer any issues about his educational history that may still be present, and Mr. Patra urged Mr. Kejriwal to hold a press conference and address all inquiries concerning the remodelling of his home.
Mr. Kejriwal did not respond to the accusations right away. His party, which frequently clashes with the BJP, accused it of concealing the state of the residence Mr. Kejriwal was given, and it produced footage demonstrating the residence’s poor condition prior to repair.
