Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao: A Legendary Icon Remembered on His 100th Birth Anniversary

Hyderabad: On the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and founder of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), his family members paid heartfelt tributes to him. Nandamuri Balakrishna, NTR’s son and a renowned actor in Tollywood, along with his nephew and popular actor Jr NTR, visited NTR Ghat on the banks of Hussain Sagar lake to offer floral tributes. Nandamuri Ramakrishna, actor Rajendra Prasad, and others also paid their respects.

Speaking to reporters at NTR Ghat, Balakrishna expressed his gratitude for being NTR’s son and considered it a blessing. He highlighted that NTR’s 100th birth anniversary was being celebrated not only in Telugu states but also across the world. Balakrishna acknowledged NTR’s immense success in both the film industry and politics. NTR founded the TDP as a means to reciprocate the love and affection he received from the Telugu people. Balakrishna recalled NTR’s contribution to welfare schemes and revolutionary laws during his tenure as Chief Minister, including the groundbreaking initiative of providing rice at a subsidized rate to ensure food security for the poor. He also mentioned NTR’s instrumental role in national politics.

Jr NTR took to Twitter to share his thoughts and pay homage to the legendary actor-turned-politician.

Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao established the TDP in 1982 with the objective of upholding Telugu self-respect. Remarkably, he achieved power in united Andhra Pradesh within a year of forming the party. NTR served as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for three terms and played a pivotal role in uniting opposition parties against the Congress. He passed away on January 18, 1996.
