Hyderabad: Addressing concerns over the proposed Metro Rail expansion in Hyderabad, Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) emphasized the government’s genuine intentions. Speaking during a land regularisation certificate distribution event in Hastinapuram, Hyderabad, KTR drew parallels with previous successful projects and reassured the public about the forthcoming metro expansion.
KTR highlighted Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) track record of completing significant projects, such as the Kaleswaram Lift Irrigation Project and Mission Bhagiratha Project, in swift succession. The minister drew an analogy, stating that similar trust should be placed in the government’s approach towards the Metro Rail expansion. The objective of the expansion is to cater to the immediate commuting needs of Hyderabad’s growing population while keeping future demands in mind, he asserted.
Immediate plans involve extending the Metro Rail from Nagole to LB Nagar, followed by a further extension between LB Nagar and Pedda Amberpet. KTR announced that efforts are underway to execute these extensions promptly. Furthermore, the State Government is set to commence the distribution of double-bedroom houses within Hyderabad’s limits starting from August 15, 2023, with a target completion date by October of the same year.
KTR took the opportunity to highlight the government’s commitment to welfare initiatives for the economically disadvantaged. He referred to the provision of house pattas to over one lakh families in Hyderabad under GO 58 and 59, showcasing the government’s sincerity towards addressing housing concerns. Additionally, he dismissed opposition parties’ criticisms of the double-bedroom housing scheme, deeming them unwarranted.
Under GO 118, the State Government decided to regularise land in 44 colonies across various parts of Hyderabad to resolve land litigation and support occupants’ economic status. Over 18,000 families in the LB Nagar constituency are expected to benefit from this initiative, as KTR explained.
KTR also unveiled plans for the impending “Gruha Lakshmi” scheme, designed to offer Rs 3 lakh to homeless individuals, aiding them in constructing houses on their land. He highlighted the holistic development underway in the LB Nagar constituency, encompassing welfare schemes, infrastructural enhancements, and traffic alleviation measures such as flyovers and underpasses. KTR also unveiled plans for the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) super specialty hospital, a 2,000-bed facility in Gaddiannaram, aimed at elevating healthcare provisions in the region.
