Hyderabad : Rumbled Strips cause many complaints raise the from public, the GHMC Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has made an announcement to halt to the rumble strips, on major areas. This move provides relief to the two wheelers who are facing many challenges while riding in the city roads.
GHMC responds to the acknowledged the flaws of the existing rumble strips, which were caused due to excessive thickness, with minute spacing and excessive numbers which are deviationg the guidelines set by Indian Road Congress IRC.
These concerns to be addressed, rumble strips to be rectified by completely removed from the city roads or reducing the strip thickness from 15mm to 5mm. As an estimation a total of 1,995 to 2,000 rumble stripsare installed through out the entire city.
The GHMC officials decision will bring relief to the riders who have experienced with back disc problems, spinal cord problems and other health issues because of the uneven arrangement of rumble strips. Also these strips are damaging the vehicles, this makes growing complaints from the citizens. GHMC address to the specified guildlines with the thickness of the Rumbled strips, not exceeding 5mm.
Minister KTR expressed dissatisfaction to the Municipal Administration with the situation and make a meet upon Engineer-in-Chief Mohd. Ziauddin and GHMC commisioner DS Lokesh Kumar for processing the immediate action. The GHMC officials Superintending by instructing the Engineers and Executive Engineer’s of the Maintenance wing to suspend the Installation of the Rumbled Strips until the further notices. As IRC codes for speed calming measures for ensure pedestrian safety, Zebra crossings and stop lines will be continued.
The Officials of GHMC highlighted the point that, these Rumbled strips were designed and installed to alert drivers with vibrations, resulted in inconveniences and uncomfortable rides, mostly affecting the two-wheeler motor riders. To halt the Rumbled strip installations, A circular has issued directly to the concerned officials. As we know, the state government implemented speed limits throughout the entire Hyderabad City within GHMC limits in May of the last year.
