Hyderabad: A visit by TPCC Chief A Revanth Reddy to various segments of the Malkajgiri Parliamentary constituency turned tumultuous on Thursday when clashes erupted between supporters of rival Congress leaders.
The altercation began with party cadre tearing down a flex banner put up by supporters of Uppal Congress leader Ragidi Laxma Reddy. The situation quickly escalated as supporters of Mandumula Parameshwar Reddy, another Congress leader from Uppal, retaliated by tearing down a poster erected by Laxma Reddy’s supporters near the Asian multiplex in Uppal.
Amidst the escalating tension, a clash broke out between the two factions while police attempted to intervene and control the situation. In the midst of the chaos, Parameshwar Reddy’s supporters allegedly attacked and manhandled some video journalists who were covering the brawl.
In protest against the attack on the media personnel, a few journalists present at the scene decided to boycott TPCC Chief Revanth Reddy’s visit to the Malkajgiri area.
Prior to the unfortunate incident, Revanth Reddy had undertaken a Padayatra from Uppal Ring Road to Bus Stand and also inspected the progress of the ongoing construction work of the elevated corridor in Uppal.
The primary contention between Mandumula Parameshwar Reddy and Ragidi Laxma Reddy lies in their fierce competition for the Uppal Congress ticket in the forthcoming Assembly elections. The situation has evidently resulted in tension and unrest among their respective supporters, causing concern for the party’s leadership.
