BJP MLA Raghunandan Rao has issued a challenge to Warangal Commissioner of Police, Ranganath, inviting examination by a sitting judge of the High Court. The challenge comes in the wake of allegations of police misconduct towards students at Kakatiya University.
During his visit to the university, Raghunandan Rao expressed concern over the reported mistreatment of students by the police. He questioned the 12-hour delay in producing the detained KU students before a magistrate and the reasons behind not taking them to court immediately after their arrest.
Rao further inquired about the students being taken from the police station to the Task Force office and then shifted to other locations, which he stated was against established procedures. Comparing the current situation to the tenures of former Chief Ministers Chandrababu Naidu and Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, he emphasized that such incidents did not occur during their rule.
The BJP MLA emphasized the importance of the police adhering to the law and, when they make mistakes, being held accountable. He also criticized the behavior of Warangal CP Ranganath, stating it was inappropriate.
Raghunandan Rao demanded an apology from the police for filing cases against the students, asserting that students represent the future of the country. He warned against misuse of authority by the police merely because of their uniforms.
